Inlays and Onlays In One Easy Visit!

If you've had tooth decay, you probably have amalgam (silver) fillings. Dentists have used amalgam fillings to restore tooth decay for over a hundred years. However, there are alternatives to amalgam fillings that are stronger and longer lasting, such as custom-made inlays and onlays. Inlays and onlays are used when not enough tooth structure exists to support a filling, and when the tooth is not so damaged that it needs a crown.

Traditionally, inlays and onlays are made in an off-site laboratory, and take two office visits to complete. However, at our dental office, we are aware that our patients can't always find the time to get the dental treatment they need. That is why we are so excited to offer CEREC technology! With CEREC, we can make your inlays and onlays right in our office while you wait - that means you can have your teeth restored in one easy office visit!

CEREC

Inlays restore the side or top area of a damaged or decayed tooth, and:
  • Are cemented to previously prepared cavities
  • Are stronger than amalgam or composite fillings
  • Are usually made of porcelain, gold or composite resin
Onlays restore fractured cusps (the raised edges of teeth), and:
  • Are used to restore severely decayed teeth
  • Are used to restore decayed molars
  • Are usually made of porcelain, gold or metal alloy

If you have tooth decay, we can discuss whether your teeth can be restored back to health with inlays or onlays. And be sure to ask us about CEREC - the technology that saves you time!
